Tank Hero

The title screen
So far all I've reviewed for this site have been clones of very well established games that we all know and love, so we take a slight break with "Tank Hero". Although it's not an all together new concept (a similar game is found on Wii Play) it's not something that has been done to death and it feels a bit fresher than the likes of a Tetris rip-off.

The concept of the game is to guide your tank around an environment and shoot the other tanks (AI controlled) before they kill you. The idea is a solid one and one that is really rather addictive and the game has the controls that make it really enjoyable. With on an onscreen D-Pad at your disposal and a tap-to-fire

cannon mechanism  the controls are really simple and easy to pick up (unlike the similar Wii game which was overly complicated due to the Wii-mote).

The game starts easy enough with you blowing up a single enemy tank though gets immensely tricky as more and more enemies are added, each one having different stats. Eventually what starts as an easy game becomes incredibly difficult, and with 80 levels in the main campaign mode you will be incredibly busy for a long time if you intend to complete it. That's before even considering the fact there is a survival mode on every level and a time trial mode.

Not only is the game an incredibly deep game with hours of game play, but it is also a game that is presented beautifully. Although the graphics aren't aren't ever amazing or mind blowing they are solid and dependable, the sounds also do their job. Although the levels can look very samey with an industrial feel to them they the tanks themselves look sharp and bright and handle well. The sounds almost match the graphics and have an industrial feel to them, there isn't anything flowery or artistic about them but they do their job.

So the game has it all, a pretty original concept, good controls, better than acceptable graphics, a fun idea and solid sounds. The only problem perhaps is that the games lacks a multiplayer function (which would genuinely be fantastic) and the levels are at times a bit samey. Had the game perhaps had some jungle or some desert themed levels it'd have slightly more interest, though as it is it's a fantastically fun game.

Addictiveness-8/10. Will almost certainly have you hooked for a few days
Controls-8/10. Very solid controls. Although they aren't perfect they are solid.
Graphics-7/10Alright. The tanks look good but the levels can look a bit boring after a while.
Sounds-7/10 The sounds won't blow you away but they are a very nice addition and add a bit to the game.
Originality-6/10 The game isn't completely original though it's a lot more original than many of the games you will find on the android market.
Total score
36/50

Overall the game is brilliant. it may have some features that make you feel that it's there to be improved but for now it is what it is. Hopefully Clapfoot Inc. are reading this and are planning a sequel with more variation and an added multiplayer mode. For now however we should be happy to have this one with us and we'll be busy completing it fully.

Game mark B+
